Trying to find a way to pop up a message before shutdown.
Vague title, I apologize. I couldn't think of a simple way to ask for help with what I am I trying to do. First, let me explain why I posted this. If you are armed with that knowledge, it might open up some creative ideas that I had not thought of.
I have a Hauppauge Colossus video capture card. I use it, along with Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64 bit and Windows Media Center (WMC) to record TV shows. I use the tv guide in WMC to find shows and mark them for recording. It all works just fine if my pc is turned on, which is whenever I am home and awake. Sometimes I am not home or my show is on when I am sleeping. I can't tell you how often I have forgotten to leave my pc on so that it could record the show later in the day. There are also many times when I go to bed early and shut the pc in a hurry to race into bed, completely forgetting that a show is scheduled for recording in the next hour or so. I'm a nurse. My sleep times can and usually do vary by as much as 16 hours every six weeks or so.
So I thought, wouldn't it be great if a message popped up when I clicked Start->Shutdown, alerting me that a recording was scheduled, thus reminding me and allowing me to abort the shutdown. That was my first idea for a solution. I then thought it would be great if the computer would just turn itself on a few minutes before the scheduled recording and then shut itself off a few minutes after the recording, but I have no idea if such a thing is possible. My first idea seemed most plausible, but I expect that the regular contributors to this extremely helpful message board would have a better grasp on the possibilities than I. So if you are one of those, please pass along some ideas. I would very much appreciate them, and I thank you for your time and courtesy.
