Here are the instructions for taking a screenshot and posting it.

The assumption is that you use MSPAINT or SNIPPING TOOL to produce the screenshot.

To use the in-built Windows Snipping tool to capture and save an image,
Click , then All Programs, then Accessories, then Snipping Tool.

To use MSPAINT, follow these instructions.

Or you can create screenshots with 3rd-party products such as SNAGIT or FULLSHOT, etc.

You can also upload your photos, images, screenshots, etc., to a web-based "image hosting service" such as Imageshack. You can then link to that web-hosted image URL location in your post here on this forum.

Lots of ways to skin this cat, but since a picture's worth 1000 words having the ability to post a screenshot will immediately answer lots of questions for those of us trying to provide help and support.

And as you stated verbally earlier, "all looks normal". There appears to be no excessive memory being consumed, nor are there any disk-intensive tasks.

Although you also stated that your CPU usage was 0, one more screenshot of the CPU tab of Resource Monitor would confirm that as well.

But if no CPU is being consumed extraordinarily, then there's no apparent explanation for why system is running VERY SLOW.

Can you please post a screenshot of the exact message or whatever you get when you try to run Windows Update, when you said it can't do it?? That's very strange, unless you didn't "activate" Windows after doing the recovery. I think Windows Updates are only available to "genuine" Windows installs, which OEM machines generally have the "certificate of authenticity" on a sticker on the side or back of the case, or on the included official CD's that came with the machine. That might be what's preventing Windows Update from running.

Ok. No CPU usage problem either.

As I requested above, can you post a screenshot of what you get when you try to run Windows Update? You said you can't do that, and I'd like to see what happens when you try.

Start -> Run -> services.msc

Then enlarge the window and spread the columns, so that you can see what's going on. It's in alphabetical order.

Scroll down near the bottom, and see if "Windows Update" service is running. Post a screenshot of what you see there, so that we can see its "status". Perhaps you can just "restart" it if it's inactive, although it would normally be started and running.

But this might depend on your settings for Windows Update, and perhaps using that recovery disk to restore your "factory" system didn't have Windows Update automatically activated.
