Deleted files not going to Recycle Bin. Pls advice.

Hi.

The Recycle Bin properties (icon > right click) show allocated bin space for the different drives. But deleted files never go to bin and are permanently deleted. There is also no confirmation before deletion although option is checked.

Thanks for help.

Rightclick on Recycle Bin > Properties and check whether the Radio button "Don't move files to Recycle Bin. Remove files immediately when deleted" is not on.

If On, put it off > Apply > OK

The 'Don't move files to Recycle Bin' radio button is already unchecked.

But the files are still not going to the bin.

Can you please post a screenshot of the Recycle Bin Properties just like the one I had posted?

Please use Windows Snipping Tool and upload to Seven Forums servers.

Are you using Shift+Del to delete the files?

Hello Seymoria,

In addition, files deleted from removable drives do not go to the Recycle Bin and are permanently deleted.

If the files you delete are too large (ex: larger than set size of Recycle Bin) you will be prompted to delete permanently instead.

Also, double check to make sure that you do not have the Don't move files to the recycle bin... option selected for each drive listed in the Recycle Bin properties and not just for the C: drive.

Recycle Bin - Permanently Delete Items Automatically

Hope this helps for now,
Shawn

^At one stroke you demolished my plans of taking the OP step by step into realising what all you have stated beautifully in the above post.

(Also I wanted to check on where exactly the files deleted from his internal drives go when deleted, if what he says is true.)

I am not using shift but just plain Del.
Thanks.

Thanks for the detailed reply.
1) No files go to the bin, either from removable or internal drives.
2) I get no confirmation check of permanent deletion for any file regardless of its size (e.g. 1kb txt).
3) I have option "Don't move files to the recycle bin" unchecked for all drives, internal and external. Please see attached screenshot.

Grateful for your help.

When you delete several things and then right click on recycle bin and select empty recycle bin, do you get a window up asking if you want to permanently delete these items? I had a similar problem long time ago.

OK,@seymoria, now a small experiment to find out whether at all the deleted files go to your Recycle Bin and if those do go whether those files remain hidden for some "unknown" reasons.

Download and install your OS bit version of WinRAR. (If you have 32 Bits Windows 7, install WinRAR 32bit version) WinRAR archiver, a powerful tool to process RAR and ZIP files - one of the top 2 in the list

Create a new folder say Trial on your C drive. Copy about 10 small MP3 files or text files into that folder.(Your originals should remain wherever they are.Don't move but only copy.)

Now delete a few of those files from the Trial folder in C drive. Confirm the files are gone from the folder..

Now run WinRAR. Navigate to your C drive and then doubleclick on the $Recycle bin and then double click on the numbered recycle bin folder. Does it show your deleted mp3 files and text files? Post a screenshot.

The following screenshots should show you the steps.
