Restart is Faulty

Almost every time I select "Restart"; the acer laptop closes down in the normal way as far as displaying a black screen. However; the HDD can still be heard running and it never stops. I have to hold down the Power Button until it completly stops. A normal startup can then be made.
Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Hi,
Use Clean boot,
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/179159-troubleshoot-application-conflicts-performing-clean-startup.html

Click Start and type in the search box,
msconfig
Click on the suggestion on top or hit the Enter key,
Go to the Startup section and take some screen shots for a complete list,
Go to the Services section and on the bottom left Check the box to Hide All Microsoft services,
Repeat the screen shots,
See the links above my signature on how to take and upload screen shots here,
Cheers.

Well "ThrashZone" your assistance has borne results. I followed the Tutorial. There was some problems with that because of two things which occurred. At one stage I ticked half the possible services and then did a reset. What eventually appeared, instead of the usual log on screen (my name or Guest) there appeared a large Bluetooth icon which told me to insert my Bluetooth password. I knew nothing about that. However, in smaller text was the option to "Change User". That brought me to a screen where I could choose Bluetooth, me or guest. So I got in.
The other thing which went wrong was that having got back to the list of services; I had expected to see a nice neat list of half the services ticked and half not (as I had left them). Not so, some ticks appeared in new places, and with over 100 services it was difficult progress without writing down all the ticked ones. Anyway I eventually tracked down the service causing the trouble. It was "Bitlocker Drive Encriptian Service". So now I have all services ticked except that one. I hope that its non-use does not introduce further problems such as making it easier for hackers.
Thanks very much

Your in no danger but then again you haven't shared any information of your installed security either :/
Please do and we'll look at it and if anything we may have other suggestions then
Cheers.

You don't need any of those starting up with Windows except your AV. They are freeloaders. It would be like driving around in your car with a dozen riders because one might need a ride some time in the future.

This is discussed in Clean Up Factory Bloatware

Are you tweaking Win7? If so I would do a Clean Reinstall Windows 7 and stick only with the modern tools and methods which assure you will keep a perfect install for as long as you do.

Otherwise work through the Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7

Wow that is a list my man
As long as you know how to control all of these utilities more power to you
I'm not sure which one would have bitlocker included :/
Glary utilities possibly ?
Cheers.
Feel free to mark your question as solved if you wish too
