data saved to flash drive

Hi:
I am trying to help a friend, usually I have been able to help but this is beyond me, perhaps someone could help.
Here is the message he gets:

I am having a problem with my new computer reading data save to a flash drive from my old computer. It seems to come up with a bunch computer codes mixed in with the data saved. I have downloaded an example of what the problem is well at least I hope it downloaded. Can you help me with my problem?
