You would want to create another admin account then delete his account.

Are you able to use the laptop ?

Are you logged in with your own account ?

    What type is it ?

Admin or a standard user ?

To check... Go to Control Panel, then User Accounts

Yes I am able to use the lap top, I can log on. It's a HP pavilion 7 I am a standard user, the problem is if I need to install new stuff it asks for the pass word as the administrator. I don't have the pass word. Went to control panel, then to add or remove accounts, this is where I get stuck because it asks for the pass word

That`s because you are only a Standard User

If it`s your laptop, why not just ask him for the password, so you can login as him to create yourself an admin account.

And if you should create another account, don`t use/setup a password, they are useless. In my opinion :)

It might be best to try and get the password from your ex, as suggested, since this is a very sensitive area and discretion must be used by our members when answering
