WMP opens automatically on startup. I've tried msconfig...

Windows media player will open automatically every startup. I've tried msconfig, Autoplay, Services (manual v. automatic) etc. I'm at my wits end. Anything else I might be missing?

Can you post a picture of msconfig > Startup and open the properties for its entry in Services.msc?

Soon after this post I noticed my media buttons on the side of the keyboard were not working as well. I have a behemoth Toshiba Qosmio x505-q890. One of the last monster truck laptops with the 18.4" screens. One of these buttons is a media library button that brings up wmp when pressed. So I thought I better check with the Toshiba support forums to see how to fix this too. They said, "Start computer and tap F2 at the Toshiba splash screen to get in BIOS. Press F9 to setup system defaults. Answer Yes. Press F10 to Save Configuration Changes and Exit. Answer Yes to complete the process. The computer will restart." OK, fair enough. And voila! It worked. Not sure how this conundrum happened in the first place and that's what made the fix all the more confusing. One of the great mysteries of the universe I guess. Thanks for chiming in and reading this post. Hope this may help someone else too.

Glad to hear you got it fixed. I would assume in your settings somehow your laptop was essentially "pushing" the media button upon restart. Just a guess.

Please mark this as solved so people can easily find it.

I changed BitComet settings not to start up at starting up Windows. It is unchecked to start in Msconfig. It is not in the Startup folder in Start Menu. Why it is still starting up when starting Windows?

Drive opens automatically
My external hard drive"Volume J" opens every time I boot up in a window titled "Auto PLay". I prefer that it not do that and I'll open it when I want. As far as I can tell, it's not in the start up tab of MSCONFIG. How do I stop that window from opening automaticallY? Thanks. Hal.
