    Broken Explorer Thumbnails

My explorer large icons doesn't work, but instead just produce blank invisible square as shown on the picture below.

    Here's what I tried and didn't help:
    • Assigning the correct PATH variables
    • Delete the icons cache/reboot
    • No system restore point

Also the desktop background can't be set.

    Thank you in advance!

    Hello djvisage,

In addition, reset and clear the thumbnail cache to see if that may help. :)

Thank you for your reply Brink.

First, I'd like to apologize for not putting this thread in the right category. (I wasn't sure where the post it)

I tried as instructed and rebooted, but no change. The same problem exists.

Do you have Windows Photo Viewer set as the default program for all of it's associations? Some 3rd party programs do not support thumbnail previews in Windows Explorer.

Still have the same issue. This broke also the folder icons. Now they're blank as well.

As a test, download and merge the .reg files for the listed Folder and any other affected file types (ex: .jpg) in the tutorial below. This will restore their default associations and registry entries.

    Thank you Brink.
I tried this, but no result. Still blank icons. I'd like to be able to fix this instead of reinstalling

Did you also download and merge the .reg file for the listed .jpg option above?

Yes, I did as soon as you posted it.

I didn't see any change except all the other icon sizes are working except the large ones. So there's a bit of a progress.
