You could press Ctrl+Alt+Del instead of Ctrl+Shft+Esc to get to shutdown button
Or if you are specifically needing to do it from task manager for whatever reason you could click file>run to execute a shutdown script possibly ?

Welcome to the forum.

The shutdown menu option as in XP does not exist in Windows 7 and cannot be added.

If you replace Task Manager with Process Explorer you can.

Here's a Tutorial that shows how to download and configure Process Explorer and also how to check all processes with multiple anti-virus products if you want. But you could just use it to replace Task Manager and don't use the other features. Anyway, Process Explorer is much better than Task Manager.

I'm lost.
Why would one want to Shut Down in Task Manager.
Why not just use Shut Down off the Start Orb.

There is a difference between the shutdown option in the start menu and that found in the XP Task Manager. The former gives applications the opportunity to orderly stop whatever they are doing and close themselves. The latter forcibly terminates all applications immediately with no regard for what they may be doing. This could result in data loss or corruption or have other undesirable results. It is better than pulling the plug on the computer, but not much. The forced shutdown should be used only when a normal shutdown is not possible.

There is less need for a forcible shutdown in Vista and later and that is likely why it was not provided. In XP and earlier it was possible for an application to block shutdown and this sometimes occurred. In Vista and later this is not normally possible. Applications are given the opportunity to close themselves but if they have not done so within a specified period of time they will be forcibly terminated.

Of course you shut down open programs before you use the Start Orb to shut down. At least I do.
I really didn't know that was a problem.
I will go away and just read the thread.
