    Windows 7 Typing Problem

When I'm typing, random things get clicked-- while in a browser, my history or a new tab will open. Commands keep going in that typically require a "Ctrl + something". Like when I typed the "t" in "ctrl" just now, a new tab opened. It's very frustrating and i know I'm not hitting the touch pad or anything like that. I just began to experience the problem after installing Windows 7 yesterday.

Is there a new shortcut key or something that I keep hitting to open my history, or a new tab on accident? It's severely annoying.

You implied that you have a touchpad, so presumably you are running Win7 on a laptop?

In all cases where I have seen this behavior this indeed had to do with the touchpad picking up even the slightest of pressure from passing hands.

I would first bring up the mouse properties applet (Control Panel > Mouse), then see if there is a touchpad tab there. If the tab is not there then you may not have the touchpad driver installed. If the tab is there, look for an option to either disable the touchpad while typing, or in some of the older touchpad drivers, a sensitivity option that you can dial all the way back as a test.

Also, what is the status of the touchpad driver? Do you have the specific touchpad driver installed or is it using a generic Windows driver? Are there any current Win7 drivers available for it?

    Problems when typing

    Hi Peter
I read your post from Oct 2009 as I was having same problem as user who posted. I went in and disabled the touchpad but it didn't give option of "when typing". So I had no working mouse and had to get out of that by plugging in my older mouse into usb port on computer. I have a new Dell Studio 17 and the shifts in where I was typing were highly annoying. I guess my question is do I have to use the external mouse now all the time since there is no option of disabling only while typing. I must say it resolved the crazy mouse problem so I guess it was the touchpad. Thanks. Marsha
