How do I prevent my cats from waking system?

Windows 7 sleep mode works great for me with one exception. I have 3 cats that walk on the keyboard or bump the mouse each night. I usually find my computer on every morning. Is there a way (or some software I can install) so that I can specify a trigger that my cats aren't likely to set off? Like having only the escape key or a side button on the mouse act as the wake up condition?

Thanks,
Ric

Have you tried using the Hibernation Mode?

Hmmm..................

They sell a spray that you can spray on furniture that is supposed to keep cats from sharpening their claws on your heirlooms.

Don't know how well it works, but you might be able to periodically dab a bit of it around your PC.

Hello Ric,

Well, I suppose that you could disable the mouse from waking up the computer since you just know that the cats will not leave a mouse alone.

You can do so from the Mouse "Power Management" properties settings in Device Manager, or STEP FIVE or STEP SIX in this tutorial.

Next, see if you can get a plastic cover for your keyboard so when they walk on it, it will not press any keys.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Got it! I went into device manager and just disabled both the keyboard and mouse from being able to wake the system. Now the power button on the PC serves as the only wake up trigger. Very nice. Thanks to all.

i have two cats that do the same thing. I just made a password for my login so the worst they can do is type a bunch of jibberish as the password. Before they were deleting icons, sending jibberish im's to people if i left AIM open (and closed if they happened to run AIM)

Glad you got it fixed how you like it. Otherwise you could have powered down the system during that time.
