    This computer refuses to boot

My step-son got tired of calling the Geek Squad to repair his Dell XPS 410 computer with Windows Vista Home Premium and retired it. He got a Mac Notebook to replace it.
He gave the Dell computer to me to do with what I wished. My plan is to remove Vista and all data and replace it with W7 Ultimate and use it here in an assisted care facility. His wife then called me, in a panic, she had some data on the HDD that is important to her business, I then offered to do my best to recover her data.

I then connected it up with the idea to find her data and save it to a thumb drive.

This is where the trouble began. I pressed the power button on the front of the computer. The computer started and the Dell logo appeared on the monitor. The logo then disappeared and the power ON button on the monitor turned yellow/orange, It was green before. The bios did not come on. After waiting for a minute for something to happen I pressed the plus(+), the minus(-) and the size button on the monitor. While the buttons were pressed a message appeared about being in the low power mode and that a press of any of any keyboard key or moving the mouse would take the monitor out of the low power mode. It did not. No amount of fiddling around would change the situation. I then placed a rebootable W7 Repair disk in the optical drive, used the power button to stop and then start the computer. The disk did not boot nor did the bios come on. At this point I am at a loss on what to do next. Any help will be appreciated.

I’m off to find a manual for this computer. Might find a lead there.

    Bill

    Hi

to get the data off the hard drive you can remove it and attach it to another computer to get the information you want.
