    cannot create new user profiles

Win 7 Home Premium. Optiplex 755. I have a working user profile with administartive rights which works fine. I also have a working guest user. However when I try to create a new user, standard or administator, the new user is shown in "mange users" but cannot be logged into. This happens in safe mode as well. I do not wish to delete the working user as comments online refer to the possibility that the onboard user profile may not load after deletion ? Thoughts?

Hello and welcome gumtree mate from my limited knowledge of this there has to be at least one admin account and I do believe that to delete accounts you have to have admin rights. So in effect if I understand you correctly you want to delete that other ?third account then just do it if you are logged in as the admin.

Please correct me if I have got it wrong. Just as a matter of interest why do you need so many accounts - in my experience it goes to make a machine really cluttered.

    Hello gumtree,

In addition, are the new user accounts showing up on the log on screen, and are you getting any error messages when you try to log in (if able) to them?

are you getting any error messages

Thanks for the question. On normal boot I can create a new user but when trying to log in to it I get "the user profile service service failed to login, user profile cannot be loaded" In safe mode I can again create an account and this time log in to it. Once the desktop cames up I get 2 messages, "You have been logged on with the default profile for the system. Please see the event log" and "C\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\Desktop refers to a location that is not available". My original user account and guest account are missing from "manage accounts". I attempted to open "manage another account" with the the new user account but the button didn't work so I couldn't create another user. Once I restarted the computer the user I had created appeared on the desktop but when I tried to log in back came the "the user profile service service failed to login, user profile cannot be loaded" The new profile did not appear in the registry at \ProfileList, only my original user profile was showing. I am trying to set up a new user account with administrators rights to allow me to change the name of my orignal user profile.

If the "C:\Users\(user-name)" folder for the account's profile was created, then see if doing the applicable tutorial below for the error you are getting may be able to help with that account.

User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.

    Live Essentials

Again thanks for the help. Prior to trying any of that I would like your respose to comments online referring to problems in "C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live\Bici". I am presuming Windows Live is a part of Windows Live Essentials which I have un-installed on my machine. However the Bici folder remains and looking in Properties\Security of the file contained within it I find the following users........
    SYSTEM
    hannah(Marc-PC\hannah)
    Administators (Marc-PC\Administarators)..........all with full permissions.

Marc-PC was created when I changed the machine name in Computer\Properties\Change Settings.

Can I delete the folder and see if this solves the problem or should I leave it in place although I cannot find reg. details of Administators (Marc-PC\Administarators) ?

I burned myself and shot off so many toes, i finally learned a lesson.
Now, I ALWAYS create a System backup image, before i make changes that MIGHT cause problems.

I create backup images at least once per month, so i can recover even if something i didn't do causes problems.
It's the best thing you can do, for your PC.

When you learn to use system backup images, you know you can try anything to see what it does, and recover if you don't like it.

Where and how you store personal data and backups is another question...

    backup images

Hi..................I do make images and have one from when we got the machine and will only go that route if I have to................trying to avoid rebuilding the setup again. You're right that I could just make and image and then try but before that it would be nice to get confirmations or not on my approaches.......thanks for the message.
