    I ended up doing a full erasure of the hard drive with Seatools For DOS.
    I then re-installed XP and letting it create the partition rather than Acronis Disc Director. I then did clean install of Windows 7.
    No further problems, so obviously, the problems were the third party created partitions.

    Clean install as in deleting all partitions and then letting 7 create partitions?
