    Personal Opinion On Computers

I'm thinking about purchasing a computer. Not necessary a desktop, laptop (notebook), but a tablet. Currently, my DELL computer likes to overheat on me, but not shutting down and the fan is always going. In addition to that, it's heavy with the battery in it, but need the battery in case the power cord slides out. What I'm looking for is something light weight, can run Excel and Word Files, plus front page. I'm also thinking about doing a web site as well. I like to down load movies and watch them during the summer when there is nothing on TV. In addition to this, be able to have a couple of windows open as well. The last requirement is that the screen MUST be 15", and have a Ethernet (RJ45) plug, and must be able to have an external hard drive plug in. Any suggestions would be helpful, plus with links if possible.

You should run your Dell Diagnostics program or download it from Dell and see why your fan is on all the time. One of my fans had failed and made my laptop dirtbag slow. Fix that and save some $$$. Just a thought.

For what you want to do with it, I'm afraid you would find a tablet to be too restrictive. I also don't think you can get a tablet with an Ethernet port. You would be better off getting a lightweight laptop, such as an ultralight. Just check that it has the ports you want.

There's a step for monitoring and resolving overheating in Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7, as well as other steps to go over it thoroughly. You might regain some performance just by establishing a Clean Boot.

You will really miss the keyboard if you buy a tablet, so why not make your PC last longer by rehabbing it. After running the suggested Dell Hardware Diagnostics from F12 Menu back up and do a perfect Clean Reinstall Windows 7 which if you've not done one yet is better than getting a new PC anyway.

Be sure to read the SPecial Note for Dell Owners at the end about which partitions you should keep.

A Microsoft Surface Pro tablet running Windows 8.1 is pretty impressive, at least the one i got to play with was. It's only 12 inch though. $800 and up :)
