Can't be removed, if you have "removable" devices connected and they have drive letters assigned. This includes external USB drives, phones, card readers, etc.

Any removable device which gets a drive letter has connected in MSC mode. Default support for this type of device utilizes buffered deferred output to the device, so that there may still be in-memory data that has not yet been written out but which obviously MUST be written out before you disconnect the removable device. If you pull the cable out before properly going through the "safely remove hardware" dialog for the device, you could do damage to the integrity of the file system or the data files themselves on the device.

So ANY removable device that you want to remove, you ALWAYS MUST FIRST click on the "safely remove hardware" icon, and then select the appropriate "eject" item in the popup list of currently connected removable devices. This will trigger Windows to write out any in-memory data which might still be unflushed yet. When this completes, you'll get a balloon message that "it is now safe to remove hardware", and now you can pull the cable.

So if you have that icon showing, it means you have removable devices that Windows is aware of. You need this icon in order to "safely remove hardware". The icon won't show if you don't have any removable devices currently connected. So why would you not want it to be visible???

2) Microsoft security essentials

If MSE is installed and running, this icon will appear. If you don't want to use that anti-Virus product, then uninstall it and you won't have the icon.

But as long as the product is installed it will produce its icon in the System Tray, to show you that you are protected. Its color changes depending on conditions (with green being normal), so why wouldn't you want it to be visible? You've already decided to use it (else you would just uninstall it, and thenyou wouldn't see the icon!).

I never really use the safely remove hardware icon, and all of my devices are working, so I don't see any reason to have it taking up space in the notification area.

Microsoft security essentials is configured to scan for virus and spyware on a daily basis, so again, I do not see a reason to have it in my notification area.

just click on customized button in system tray here you can see all icons and their behavior so choose which want to remove here you only hide notification and icon so choose hide icon and notification and click on save that's all after that icon not showing in system tray and you can't get notification from these apps

I am not interested in hiding them, I am interested in completely removing them.

If you installed new software that time you choose create system tray icon or not

That windows guide says that it is going to tell us how to remove the icons from the notification area, but the guide actually only tells us how to hide them, and not remove them, so that guide isn't helping me out.

With that being said, I have tried the guide on the website that gokay suggested, and it works, when I use the batch file that removes the icon, the icon is removed.

The only problem is that I have to run the program everytime I start my computer.
