Windows 7: unallocated???

unallocated???

backed up my files on a 250g HDD

reinstalled win7 on 500g HDD

During install, I ignored the 250 and partitioned the 500g HDD like I have done thousands of times before.

Then choise one of the partitions on the 500G HDD to install wnin7.

Install complete and win 7 is on the proper partition on the 500g HDD. I see the other 500g HDD partitions listed as D and E in the file manager.

However, I dont see the 250g HDD

looking in administrative tools~computer management I see the 250g HDD as unallocated.

Any ideas how i can fix this and get back my important needed files? (these were my backups)

The first thing I would try is a different operating system. You could try a WinPE disk, or a linux distro, even a dedicated recovery distro such as Parted Magic (older ones are free).

If that doesn't work I would try a prog such as Partition Magic's "Recover Partition" function, or Test Disk off a Dos recovery disk.

These presume that the data is still intact, but that the partition tables somehow got wiped. If that isn't the case the next step is data recovery.

booted to Linux Mint Live CD

file manager not list the 250g
preferences~disks lists it as
250 GB Hard Disk
model: ST3250310AS (4.ADA)
serial number: 6RYHBRZS
Assessment: Disk is OK, one bad sector (41 C / 106 F)
volumes
free space 250 GB
Size: 250 GB
(250,000,000,000 bytes)
Device: /dev/sdb
Contents: Unallocated Space (Master Boot Record)

scan for error was done on
this HDD Less then 3 months ago thru win7 found no errors.

Parted Magic to find/fix?

Paul - I see both your posts. I still would attempt to recover the partition tables first, via a partition program or TestDisk. It's easiest, and if that's the extent of the problem the data will be sitting there waiting for you.

How to use Unallocated files
I recently upgraded from a 120gb SSD to a 250gb SSD as my primary system c: drive. I did this by using EaseUS Clone tool. It looks like it partitioned the 250gb as a 120gb and now I have 113gb left as unallocated. My goal here is to use the 250gb SSD as one partition as the primary system c:...

Can't Use Unallocated Space
I had Ubuntu installed on this partition (when I installed Windows it became unbootable). I've tried having Windows make a drive in the space and formatting it, but it won't let me extend my C: drive onto it. Here's a screenshot of my drive. http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/3927/screenshotnh.jpg

Unallocated Space
I purchased a new HD and when installed have 100mb of unallocated space. I figured I would use it to partition and store music. The thing is I can not make it any bigger the 100mb, and I can not delete it to make it a part of the c: drive so I can then co back and partition another drive. Is there...

Unallocated Space
Hello guys, I'm back with a new problem today. I've a 16GB USB thumb drive and made it bootable. After using it, I formatted through Windows and I noticed that the capacity has reduced from 14.9GB to 5.98GB! I made my way to Disk Management and found some unallocated space. All the options under it...
