Hide Windows 7 From XP?

Is it still necessary to hide the Windows 7 partition from XP to prevent XP (when XP is running) from damaging the Windows 7 restore points?

This was the usual practice with Vista.

Hello Bob,

You can use the same tutorial below in XP, but just substitute Windows 7 for Vista instead.

System Restore Points - Stop XP Dual Boot Delete - Vista Forums

Hope this helps,

Thank you, I know how to do it, I had the 7 partition hidden before I even installed the OS. Just needed to know if it was still necessary, I kinda thought it did.

I just thought of another question. With 7 Pro (and above) if you use the new XP mode, what happens then?

I haven't tried 7's XP mode yet. In XP mode can XP even see the Windows 7 folders and files?

I going to assume that in Windows 7's XP mode that some features of an 'ordinary' XP install (on a separate partition) don't function as you might expect or are suppressed.

Yeah, dual booting with XP will delete Windows 7 restores points as well.

So far I have not heard if any cases where XP-Mode deleted Windows 7 restore points when it starts up. It will work fine.

I use Vista Hide N' Seek from the same site as EasyBCD to dual boot Windows 7 and XP. I do hide the Windows 7 partitions from XP to avoid problems with XP system restore deleting the Windows 7 system restore information on each drive. As far as I know, it's still necessary to hide Vista and Windows 7 partitions from XP if you want to continue to enable system restore in both OSes.
