    Toshiba satellite m35x-s349

    Hi Guys:
A few days ago I did a clean installation of Windows 7 professional to my old Toshiba that was running Windows xp Sp3 Professional edition. Right now is running very well but only the video controller is missing.
    The chipset is:
    Intel 855GME.

I was looking into Intel and Toshiba but no drivers posted .

Any suggestion about some generic or other OS driver to use.
    Thanks in advance.

Hi post the hardware id's for the controller. Might be able to find something. Might be out of luck with such an old laptop.

I doubt that you will not be able to find a Windows 7 Driver for that Chipset ...

Windows Update or Install the xp Driver in Compatibility Mode is your best Option ...

You might try compatibility mode with a Vista driver for the chipset. Here's an excerpt from a MS post:

If so, download one of these drivers (Vista would be the best ).
After you download the driver, right click the file and select properties/Compatibility Tab.
Place a check mark in the Run this program in compatibility mode for.
In the Drop down menu, select Windows Vista or Windows XP.
    Click Apply / OK.

Right click the file again and select the Run As Administrator option.

A quick search finds that someone has modded a driver here to Install 855GM Series Video Driver on Windows 7 - Tutorial.

This user also found an applicable driver using DriverMax which is useful sometimes for finding the very oldest drivers, and which allows one or two free downloads and installs per day, after which I would uninstall it so it doesn't run in background: Windows 7 and the Intel 855GM Video Driver "Solution" | Virtualization, Cloud, Infrastructure and all that stuff in-between

Otherwise as Maxie suggested try installing the download listed for Windows XP Display Driver for Intel 855GME Display Adapters in both XP and XP SP3 Compatibility Mode. This may give you Sleep and Hibernate functionality that doesn't come with the Standard VGA driver.

Other tips are the same as here for getting and keeping a perfect Clean Reinstall Windows 7
with driver steps printed in red.
