Messages and delay when shutting down

Every time I shut down my computer, I close everything first.
I still get the following messages: -
"Waiting for program to close. Force Shutdown?"
This displays very briefly, and is followed by: -
"Please do not power off or unplug your machine.
Installing Update 1 of 1"
This lasts for about 1 minute. It happens even if it is only a few minutes since I last shut down.
It is scarcely life threatening, but it is tedious having to wait before I can power off.
Does anyone know how to stop it happening please?

Hi, Have a look for "windows updates" and check "view update history" option :
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Windows Update\View update history

Sounds like one of updates is failing to install.

I can't find "Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Windows Update\View update history"
My control panel only has: -
System and Security
Network and Internet
Hardware and Sound
Programs (Uninstal)
User Accounts and Family Safety
Appearance and Personalization
Clock, Language, and Region
Ease of Access.
None of the Sub-headings look relevant
