"Invert Selection" not in Windows 7??

I have been using the "invert selection" command regularly for many years on earlier versions of Windows Explorer.

    I can't find it in Windows 7.

A google search implies that it was not in the earliest betas, but was restored sometime around March 2009.

Is it in the retail version? Where?

A search of these forums for "invert selection" generates a single hit from January. The post got no responses at all.

A search for the term in Windows Help generates a hit with a page full of keyboard shortcuts. I waded through them and didn't see it.

    Help?

Hi! I think the Keyboard SHortcut has been removed but you can still "Invert Selection" by selecting and then going to edit. It's at the bottom of the dropdown menu.

Make your selection, then hit ALT to reveal the menu bar. Go to the Edit Menu. Its right at the bottom.

    The keyboard sequence is ALT+E+I.

Oh and by the way you can sorta make that into a Keyboard Shortcut by pressing alt+e+i

    Selecting what?

Edit is at the bottom of what dropdown menu??

I don't see the expected "Edit" menu as a choice at the top of Explorer.

I don't see an edit or invert selection choice if I right click a random file in a random folder.

I see headings like organize, include in library, share with, play all, burn, and new library.

What menu do you refer to and how do I access that menu?

Thanks for that. I see it.

Is there no way to display that bar by default, so I can always have quick access to the Edit menu??

Or must I always use Alt?

At the top left corner of your explorer window is a button labeled "Organize". Click it and then on the Layout sub-menu, click Menu Bar. Presto, you have the good old menu bar visible permanently.

Thank you again. I woulda thought the menu bar would be there by default, but someone had another idea.

@ignatzatsonic The reasoning behind hiding it was to make the interface much cleaner. Having more options for newbies just confuses them but they're still there if needed :)

Holding down ALT in Explorer temporarily shows the menu bar. Once you get used to it, you find you rarely ever need the menu bar if ever.
