Can you still buy Windows 7 Professional non O.E.M.?

Greetings:

I hope I am posting this is the right area of the forum.

I would like to purchase legitimate copy of Win 7 than I can transfer to another computer if I need to in the future?

Any input appreciated.

Smorton

Sure, just google it, it`ll be expensive, but you can still find retail out there

You wouldn`t transfer anything, you just install it.

But oem is fine, it`s the same thing, and much cheaper.

NO
Microsoft stopped offering it in 2014 as a retail product. The only way to buy it now is OEM Pro or Home Premium version from authorized sellers. This assumes you want a sealed package with Hologram and COA.
The only difference between Retail and OEM is that the OEM will be tied to the motherboard of the machine it is installed on. There may be an exception if the motherboard fails and you want to replace it; Microsoft may allow it.

If it's the same model of motherboard. I had to replace mine at one month because of the Intel USB debacle but it was the same model. I still had to enter the ID but it went right through. Changing more than one device (don't know the exact number) can also trigger a recertification.

My goal would not have it tied to a particular mother board.

Thanks.

Any further suggestions highly appreciated.

Okay, I can use the OEM as long as I use the same motherboard. I have a Dell XPS 8700 with Intel Core I7-4790 CPU @ 3.6- GHz with 24 gb of ram. So if I get a different computer I would need to change the mother board and use the one I have now. Seems like it might be difficult.

Is it?

Many thanks
