I have just bought a new cp and installed a dozen programs. Six of the desktop icons went to my desktop and the other 6 went to the public desktop. This makes it impossible to "sort by name". Can someone please tell me how to get all the icon onto my desktop instead of half and half.

Hi as you say "public desktop" right click the ones and send to desktop.
The icons in the Public Desktop should also be showing on your Desktop so sort by name should work.
When you sort by name, the public desktop icons sort by name and the personal desktop icons also sort by name separately. So you end up with an A to Z sort (perso) and then another A to Z sort (pub); yes, two separate sorts. Strange!
AND, if you copy, say, Chrome in the publ. desk and paste it onto perso. desk you end up with two Chrome icons.
I'l work some more on it tomorrow; I'm 70 and rather tired out right now.

Simply "Move" the icons to the folder you want them to appear in.
For example, I move all of my Start Menu icons into the System Start Menu (except for Startup items, which I leave in my User Start Menu).
