    File Permissions Issue

I'm having difficulty setting file permissions and having them stay set on my C: Drive. I'm the only user on my computer and set as admin, yet when I try to set file permissions on some folders (and all sub folders/files) as soon as the process of removing read only is completed, the files are still read only. If you require I could post a video of it on youtube of what I mean.

I have tried something called Take Ownership but thats done jack-all essentially. So far as I can tell, it is also happening to my D: drive as well. I've attempted to alter access nodes for the different user levels however that seems to get reset as well. I change a variable and it appears as though it worked, but if i leave the attributes window and bring it back up immediately, its back to what it was.

    Any help is appreciated,

    Hi Link,

A video may be helpful in explaining the problem you face.

I'm unsure of what you mean by "read only". Are you referring to the file attribute or the read permissions permission?

You want to make the folders/files executable, writable, deletable? You want to be able to create files/folder as well in that folder?

essentially, yes. I have to save to the desktop then drag files into the folders to modify a file thats in there, and some programs cant modify any of the files even when run as an admin

This tells what happens and how to fix it. You cannot view or change the Read-only or the System attributes of folders in Windows Server 2003, in Windows XP, in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
But you have to change "file/folder permissions" to be able to get the access you want!

Right click on c:\program files\steam (if that's the folder you want to change) and select properties. Then click tab "security", then button "advanced". Post screenshot.

Also: Right click on c:\program files\steam (if that's the folder you want to change) and select properties. Then click tab "security", then button "advanced", then tab "owner". Post screenshot.

So you actually you want "Full control" on c:\program files\steam and all files and subfolders in it?
If so.... only you or every user on that computer?

Essentially, yes. Im the only user. I'd prefer if all files and folder on both my drives were the same permissions

Will be some delay, at work currently
