Computer doesn't stay in sleep mode

My computer doesn't stay in sleep mode when I put it there. After a variable amount of time (usually less than 2 hours), it wakes up without any stimulus. It will also immediately wake up if I turn off (off only, not on) a peripheral device such as the moniter or speakers. I would like to have both problems fixed, but most important is the first example (wakes up without anything done). It does this even attached to different peripherals (changed keyboard, mouse, speakers).

To be clear, I put the computer to sleep by myself. The settings don't allow the computer to do so by itself.
Thanks for your help!

Make sure this is set to disable.

Also, check your bios for anything that will allow it to wake from sleep and disable it.

Hello Stebobibo,

In addition, you can read your wake source log to see if it may reveal what is waking the PC. See the related tutorials links at the bottom of the tutorial for more helpful information as well.

Also make sure that this setting in control panel for your network settings is not checked if you're connected to a network:

Thanks! I did the first step. How do I do check the bios?

Thanks a lot, Brink.
I ran the tutorial. There are 3 different wake sources out of 12 events. One is "unknown", which occurs in the oldest 10/12. The other 2 are:
1. Intel(R) 82579V Gigabit Network Connection
2. USB Root Hub
The average amount of time it remains in sleep is 1hour.

I don't know what to make of this information. Do you?

My network connection doesn't give me the option of prohibiting it from waking the computer (see screenshot).

Stebobibo,

Have you already done OPTION TWO below to disable the devices listed in the wake log to no longer be able to wake the PC?

I used OPTION ONE. As you see in the previous post, I don't see an option to disable the Intel(R) 82579V Gigabit Network Connection from waking. I did check the USB Root Hub. There were four devices, and all four of them didn't have the box checked (see screenshot). Should I try OPTION 2 on the Intel Network Connection?

My PC doesn't stay in Sleep Mode
Under XP I enjoyed using the sleep mode. I'm not sure if that's the correct translation, in my German windows it's called "Ruhezustand". The PC was off (more or less) and didn't consume much energy, and I could easily wake it up and had all the software and all the files open, just as I had left...
