Change of key behaviour in Windows 7

GoKay - thanks for that. That's not a key I've ever (intentionally!) used before. Maybe I've got fat finger trouble. I'm using CTRL and ALT keys a lot, so could well be. I'll check it out.

Edit: what I don't get is why does start menu not opening? Perhaps it only register WIN when another key is pressed.
The WinKey action is, as with a lot of windows key actions, set to action on release, so that the same key may be used in combination with other keys.

WinKey +{release key} gives the start menu, holding down the WinKey and tapping certain other keys gives other preset shortcuts

Can you System Restore to a point before the problem began?

Folks - having juggled with the Windows key, as suggested bu GokAy, I haven't experienced the problem since. Many thanks to those who commented, I'm going to post this as solved now.
