Oh, i see what you're hinting at. Since way back then i was quite the computer illiterate, an IT guy both built and set up the computer. This is a home computer. We have since fallen out of touch.

I'll try the clean start asap. Re-install what exactly, though?

Hi Recentlybald,

Is FL Studio, as the example mentioned in your OP, the only application that is unable to save to your Desktop?

If you believe you are experiencing permission problems with your Desktop folder, post the output of the below Icacls command of that folder here, and I'll be able to determine if there are any issues with the permissions that are set.

icacls "C:\Users\User\Desktop"

@Layback Bear - I think it might be easier for me to just admit that the results would be exactly what you expect. Sorry.

@Pyprohly - Hi! FL Studio is not the only application having issues, i simply found it easiest to show the issue with.

You have Full Control access over your Desktop. It's unlikely a permissions problem you're faced with.

One thing though, this shouldn't make any difference, however, I notice your user account, "User", isn't included in the Access Control List as an inherited permission of your Desktop folder, thus your user isn't enlisted on your home folder's ACL either.

Your user account should have Full Control over its own home folder. You may like to run the command,
icacls "C:\Users\User" /grant User:(OI)(CI)F
to correct this. Again, I don't predict this will make any difference though, as you should already have full access to these folders, as indicated in your image above.

Using FL Studio, Recentlybald, are you able to save to any location in your home directory at all? If so, could you run an Icacls on one those folders too? Just to verify that permissions isn't the culprit.

If you can save to this location and the output from Icacls from this folder is exactly the same as your Desktop's, then you can be sure it's not a permission problem you face.

Before continuing i'd just like to say thanks for the continued attention. I'm not actually recently bald but this has had me pull quite a few hairs out so i'm well on my way towards that.

I ran the icacls command on the folder where it keeps suggesting i save to, the music folder:

Oddly enough, it's currently working absolutely fine again, since i just booted up after a whole day of power outages. The other programs i've had the same problem with; visual studio and even word if i remember correctly are totally fine right now as well. I'm convinced even shortcuts would be created. This won't stick, though.

I haven't fully tested the limits of where i can save to, but so far i know that anywhere within program files is fine for example, or the music/documents/pictures folders. It's a bit tough to test because it won't even let me navigate through c:\.

If it's not permission issues though, any clue as to what it could be?
