Disadvantages Windows 7 64-bit?

And without a doubt, 64-bit code will chew into RAM more than 32-bit code. Therefore, I don't suggest using a 64-bit OS with less then 3GB of RAM.

Well said. That's what I believe too.

64bit can handle bigger integers at one time, verses breaking them up into smaller computations.
Don't say that like ALL apps uses integers bigger than 32-bits. Yes, it might be true for big software and games but... is it true for your every day e-mail and browsing activities? I'm pretty sure that the answer is NO.

@priosteel : Integers are numbers without decimals (aka what follows a . in a number exemple 1.25 where .25 are decimals). Since 64-bits can take bigger integers it can, thus, uses those big numbers and play with them while 32-bits has to split it in two before playing with them ;)

I just went from xp32bit to Win 7 64 bit. My only trouble was getting drivers and I was having issues getting my motherboard to recognize the 2 new gb's of memory. But with 4gb and Win7 the move up was worth it to me. There are some difficulties finding the right drivers, mostly Win 7 installs them for you though. It's just confusing because there is no official literature saying what exactly you need to do depending on which motherboard you have. But looking back I see that windows had already installed 95% of what I needed.

In short, if you like messing around and figuring out how to make 64bit work then it's worth it. It's fast.

well i had 64 bit win7 installed few days ago, and i had no trouble installing the drivers or any other software.

so if i can get better performance with no problems using the softwares that i use, then i guess i should stick to 64-bit?!

Yes, stick with it. It is working for you. It is the future.
