File Properties

Greetings All!!
Ok, although I don't consider myself a noob at this, I'm stumped. I have various files (various extensions) mostly for games that I can't alter, input any info on the properties tab of said file. It's essential that I have a way to organize these files as these folders can sometimes hold hundred of files from literally dozens of sources. On my XP machine, i just rightclick on the file and under summary tab, enter a title or author. I refuse to believe that I can't do this in Win 7.
Please help!

Thanks,

I havent installed the addon linked above but I dont think it's what I'm looking for.
The above link is for media files and works on these extentions "APE, ASF, FLAC, M4A, M4P, M4V, MP+, MP3, MP4, MPC, MPP, OGG, WMA, WMV, and WV."

I'm talking about game files that although a very few may be media, MOST are not.
They have extentions like .hak, .set, .2da, .mdl, .tga, .dds

It is essential that I find a way to organize these files in their folders,, any more ideas?

If you right click in a folder, the view options lists several different ways to arrange files. Some of those are information you can put into a file.

If that isn't what you need, maybe you could give an example of exactly what you need.

Yes exactly,,, but how do i put that information into the file? The fields are not editable! IF i have a file named xyz.2da,, How can i edit it (win 7) to add an author, joe blow, to the file? Under XP, I just right clicked the summary tab and typed it in.. I can't do that in Win 7. It has a buttload of ways to view and arrange files but no way to edit it.. Just pick a random a file, rightclick, pick the details tab. Thats where I want to add data.

It seems like such a trivial thing.

I opened a .jpg file, and I am sure all files do not behave this way, but I went to the Properties-Details tab and moused over the right side of the window. A small box would open allowing the input of information. I do run as an admin user.

If you have one type of file I mght also have, let me know so I can test it.

Just change the extension to .tga on that same jpg file(or any of the others I noted above). And you wont get the small box anymore for input anymore.

FYI, I run as Admin too,, jpg's arent a problem for me either.

I don't seem to have any of those file extensions on my system. I believe different file types can store different types of data. Targa version 1 probably cannot store as much as Targa Version 2.

The only thing I might think is you had something on you XP machine that allowed user information to be input. Have you made a .tga file while you were in Win 7? I'm not sure changing a file extension from .jpg to .tga is workable in so far as making it completely functional, but I have no experience with it.

On XP you can right click any file, no matter the extension , and input info on the summary tab.
