Hangs after welcome splash screen - windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Hi,
I just finished re-installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit because I had broken my SATA data connector on my O/S SSD when hooking up the last USB 3.0 Header connector. (I know DUMB DUMB DUMB !). Exact same hardware and exact same software, but now after logging in and the welcome screen fades, my desktop just sits black with no icons. I can get my desktop by using task manager and killing the explorer process, and restarting it.
The computer was running lightning fast until I installed the software for my Brother printer. I assumed it was something with this install.
I have done the following to try to rectify the problem
1./ Uninstalled the Brother software from Program Features. (no change)
2./ Tried system restore to before Brother Install (no change)
3./ Tried going back through all restore points (no change)
4./ Ran checkdisk to check status of new SSD. (all disks showed good)
5./ Ran the system memory checks (all good)
I don't know why it keeps stalling at the desktop. I am at a complete loss as to where to go from here, short of a complete re-install again (don't really want to do this as it takes a couple of days with the programs I have running on the computer).
Was thinking of trying SFC but am not sure if this will make matters worse. I have a tech level of advanced basic to intermediate, so I can generally do just about anything on the desktop if guided through it. This was a custom build comprising the following hardware:
Gigabyte GA77X-UD3H Motherboard Rev 1.1
2 X 4GB Patriot Viper Extreme 1600 MHz RAM
Gigabyte GeForce GTX750 1GBOC (installed in the PCIe 3.0 tandem slot using full 16 lanes)
LG Modisk 24X Optical Multi-Drive
Siig 1394 9 Pin Firewire Adaptor (8 lanes)
StarTech USB 2.0 PCIe Card (8 Lanes)
Athena Power 3U Rackmount Chassis with 800W 80+ Gold PSU
Gelid Slim Hero II CPU Cooler
2 X SanDisk Pro Extreme II SSD's 240GB
1 X Seagate Barracuda HDD 1TB
As I said above, everything was working until I installed the software suite from my Brother printer. It is possible it could have been from the install of RtpMidi but the problem didn't show up until after the Brother install.
Any tips or suggestions as to where to go from here would be greatly appreciated. If any further info is needed to help with the situation, please let me know and I will do my best to get it.
Thank you,
