    Clean up Photo Gallery

    Hello,

I come to you with almost the same issue as always: the organization of my graphic files (photos, music and some videos). Looking for a particular couple of files that I needed to print earlier, I realised the sheer amount of duplicates that I'm storing in the same application for no particular reason and taking loads of space. I went straight ahead and tried to find out a shortcut to get rid of the unwanted duplicates. But I couldn't find it and this is why I am writing to you.

I am aware that the application may have been made redundant due to safety precautions, as the Microsoft Live message did explained when I clicked on their Help link. So I thought inmediatly in contacting 7Forums and hear it from you best.

The only thing I need is to erase (forever) the files that are repeated time and time again. I did it before, one by one, but they came back after all my hard work (they can be 13000 in all), I think I wrongly spent my time doing so in the iCloud which quickly backed up everything on as it was... I don't know if the same would happen if I go 'one by one' on the Photo Gallery itself. But I'd much rather prefer some simple options or commands that can be executed all at once, if possible that is.

    Thank you very much

    Best

Seems to me a third-party program would be called for. There's some free ones and some not free.

I use the Easy Duplicate Finder from Webminds but they also have one for photos.
Easy Duplicate File Finder - Remove Duplicate Files
Duplicate Photo Finder - Find Duplicate and Similar Photos
An issue the programs solve is they can be set to read the files and compare to other files [read their content] in the Folder/s chosen regardless of the file name.

    Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
I'd first confirm you don't have the same files in public pic's/.... as you do in My Pic's/...
I'd remove the Public pic's/... from your win-7 library and test,
    Attachment 364989
Then review your wpg left column folders tree for the entry
Wpg defaults to search all folders and files,
    Attachment 364990

You could also install Ccleaner (free) which can direct you to any duplicate files via its tools menu. You can decide which ones to delete from there. The bonus if you install Ccleaner is it has a great "clean up" ability which I, and many others, use regularly.
