When I right click I don't have the take ownership tab. But, I have permission to do anything with these files on the corrupt drive but it still won't let me move them from that disc to my Win 7 disc. I still get the access denied. I am going to try and make a boot disc and see if that lets me repair the drive.

You need to follow the tutorial in my post to get the right click menu item, then take ownership. It is not there by default.

Thanks, I missed the part where I had to download the registry value. It seems to be working. That was too easy. All I wanted was to get the files from that drive to my c drive and then format the other disc for use as a backup. Your help is much appreciated.

It is alright happens to all of us. So did taking ownership work and you have access to the files now?

Yes am able to take ownership and transfer everything so far. I had done a recent backup of some files right before the crash but for some reason hadn't backed up all my pictures of kids and stuff for almost a year. Those were what I wanted most, the rest of what I'm getting is bonus. Again, thanks for the help. In reality that was a very simple method.

File size of zipped password protected files larger than expected
When I compress a password protected Word or Excel file by adding to a zip or archive folder, the file size is much greater than when I add a non protected file. For example, if I compress a 5Mb Excel file, the archive (zip) file is a little less than 5Mb, with an 8% compression ratio. If I...
