Windows 7: Who's sticking with Windows 7?

I had to go back to Windows 7. My computer overheated and crashed, and instead of being able to simply restart as I have been able to do with Windows 7, I had to re-install Windows 10. It didn't destroy my files, but everything else got reset. This is a big glitch that is a deal breaker for me.

Ya my dad recently said he went to Windows 10 and he is NOT happy with it at all. He is also having problems with it and wants Windows 7 back.

That's indeed a common complaint.
But you can definitely help him out, by installing the "Classic Shell" and then going into Settings and make Windows 7 look just like Windows 7. Disable active corners, etc.

I've done this for my customers who somehow got stuck with Windows 10, either by upgrade or by buying a new PC. Don't forget to kill 'WUDO' and "Cortana", two huge security holes.

Good Luck,
TechnoMage

PS: By the way, I'm also sticking with Windows 7 Ultimate 32, because it's the most compatible with the programs I like to use, including a 26 yr old game that I like to play every day.
I HAVE run both Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 Pro, and find Windows 7 just a lot more user friendly.

I will stick with Win7 on this desktop and my wife's laptop until EOL. Before then I will make decisions:
* Use Linux, after having tried it. If I don't like it, another decision.
* I am fully expecting an Android O/S to have evolved by then, which will blow MS away.
* Another O/S will have developed, about which I am currently unaware. The field is wide open, after all.
* I will buy two more laptops with Retail Win 10 O/S for each one. (unlikely)

I have a genuine, full Retail win7/64 HP. It is mine, I bought it. I look upon it as I used to look upon the cars I bought as a motor engineer and technician: I could keep them running for years with care, proper maintenace and servicing. Without the maintenance of updates, my Win7 disk is a coaster. I carry out all the maintenance I am able to provide for my system, by a good AV and proper housekeeping. Why should I have to give this up before I need to, simply because MS pressures me into accepting an O/S that I do not like and do not want? I have taken the precaution of installing GWX Control Panel and I take care to set Updates to download and install when I want them. I have bought and used every iteration of Windows since 3.1 (excepting Me and Vista) and I would have bought 10 if it had just been a retail improvement of 7. Which it most definitely is not.

I am very annoyed with Microshaft's underhand tactics with the way it tries to force users into accepting 10. This is called Customer resistance, Microshaft. You should pay it some attention.

I would stick to Windows 10. I understand all of your complaints but Windows 10 is still very young and you should expect incompatibilities with the hardware of your system. I have no problem with Microsoft stalking on my PC in a weird way because I live in the Philippines where M$ doesn't give a ****. Give it some time, most of you would want to go to Windows 10 soon.

Well, I work at home, andI have my own business. If my system crashes and I have to wait two hours for a reinstall, I lose productivity, and could also lose my part-time job, which I need. If this were to happen, my finances would go into a tailspin.

The time it took to reinstall to get back into Windows after my computer over-heated is too long to have happen on any regular basis. The time it takes to simply restart Windows 7 afterwards is so much shorter, and that led to my decision to go back.

I actually liked Windows 10 and had it for four months before my issue. Because I had it longer than 30 days, I had to re-install Windows 7, instead of reverting back.

I will be sticking with Windows 7 until long after it's EOL. When I decide to use a new version (which will be after Windows 7 ceases to function properly anymore) it won't be set up with a patch. I never use upgrade patches. When I install Windows 10 or 20 or whatever, it will be a full installation version, not an upgrade. I've cleaned up far too many upgrade messes to bother with that ever again.

Well, , , I have 7 on one computer, (<-Toshiba a505), but I'm sticking with XP on my desktop machine.

I know, I know, , but actually, there is stuff that will NOT run on my 7 machine.

I'm getting really tired of a lot of people tellin' me 7-8-8.x-10 is better, no matter what. (what I could do under XP that I cannot do under 7, 'Well, its better that you cant do that, bILL gATES sez so, , , ,')

End of rant.

I too will be staying with 7. All due to hardware/software compatibility, look/feel, functionality, and all the other problems with 10.
Currently there are no disks to do the install, (I have a slow internet connection) so downloading the image is out.

MS forcing us to change is asinine, auto makers don't even do that. It is just WRONG.

Wouldn't some system images get you back in action in 10 minutes or so without the painful need to reinstall. I'm assuming popular programs like Macrium Reflect handle Windows 10.
