Auto starting no problem. Decided to be smart and do a system backup before I mess around changing the user name. Never know with my luck. As for the media folder, I though I might use it to hold ISO files for a while prior to transferring over to the HDD in the media player. Could run the file from within the folder if I so choose. I will let you know how it goes with the username. Hope I don't cause any events due to the change. We shall see.

You did a god job enlightening me a bit. Thanks much.

    Failing again

OK GoKAy; back on August 6th with your help the KDLinks 750 HD was working as expected, and as I wanted. I have been away for a while and more than a bit sick. That said, I went back into the unit and once again it is not accessing the network. Same old username and password issue. I did keep notes on what we did right from the first day do I decided to see if I could find the location of the password I entered for the user group media. I did write it down as a note, but who knows, worth a look.

I used netplwiz to have a look at the user names but I am now not allowed to scroll down the, click on any item like add, properties etc.

So something had happened obviously. Security changes we make are still in effect.

From the P.C. I can see the unit, see the HD in the unit and send files back and forth at will.
Just cant look at the pc from the unit.

Any ideas where I cans start looking. Weird as it worked fine before and I have not typed it any changes.

Perhaps you have logged in to the PC with the media user? Do you see both your admin account and media in netplwiz?

When I start my PC it is and has always been in auto log on and I fire up the media player sometime later when I want to work on it or just use it. Could any of the recent Windows 7 updates cause an issue. Nothing else has happened to my knowledge.

As you can see, none of the buttons are high lit so can't access anything or pick a different account.

I believe the options are greyed out due to the checkbox at top for auto-login being unchecked.

And I see your guest account is enabled. Try disabling it in Control Panel - User Accounts - Manage another account
Then check Network and Sharing Center (make sure Network location is Home) - Advanced Sharing Settings:
    - Turn on file and printer sharing
    - Select "Turn on Password Protected Sharing"

The guest account shows up as turned off. Tried to remove it but windows said NO CAN DO.

File and printer sharing was turned on.

"Turn on Password Protected Sharing" was OFF; turned it on.

Netprwiz now shows no guest account . I did nothing to it that I know if.

I will do a reboot and check the settings; them try to access from media player again.

    Back in a bit.

Guest is a built-in account and can't be deleted. Correct way to deal with it is to disable (which is the default)
Try restarting the media player too if it doesn't work.

Restarted both PC and player, right?

How far can you get in the PC from the player? Are you being asked for username/password? or get denied even without being asked?
Check Network and Sharing Center - make sure Network location is Home.
