Sometimes a folder/file can't be renamed or moved

Recently, I been getting an unusual number of Win7 messages that a folder/file, etc can't be renamed/moved/whatever because something is using it. Sometimes the cause is obviously my "fault". Other times I can't determine what's holding things up. Sometimes the only thing in the taskbar is the folder containing whatever folder/file I'm working on. Sometimes closing & reopening the folder is all that's needed. Other times I've had to restart. This has just started happening so frequently.

Is there an easy/quick way to identify what is using it? Or to force release?

Try Unlocker

When you get the error right click on the file or folder and click Unlocker. It should tell you what is holding onto the item. Also you can select delete on next boot etc..

I recommend the portable version since it is not supposed to install unwanted software.

Accidentally renamed user folder!
Hi, In trying to move my Downloads folder I seem to have accidentally renamed my User folder 'Downloads'. :o It only appears like this in my area when I look in Windows Explorer. Other users still see it as its original name. (See attached screen shot.) It also has a picture of a lock and a...

File Gets COPIED if Moved to New Folder!!
I have only just noticed that when I drag a file to a different folder on the same drive, it does not *MOVE* but gets COPIED!! So it's behaving as if it were being moved to a separate drive. No wonder I'm using disk space so quickly - I'm doubling up on everything! Is there somewhere I can...

Renamed a folder, now Windows can't find it?
Hi for long reasons I won't bore you with I had to rename a game folder. Now when I try to install a patch for the game it can't find it. The patch file doesn't ask me for the game directory, it just checks the Windows or wherever it looks for the game details. Is there a way of telling Windows...

How can this even happen? I downloaded from zip files 16 new albums--all by the same artist (an audio series)--named those 16 albums as I wished, divided them into 4 folders (4 albums in each) and named those folders as I wished. All in my MY Music folder. Then I went to lunch. I came back,...
