Above are some reviews and comments on "Joy Systems", who you would be buying from if you ordered any of those HP laptops from Best Buy.

Make of it what you will.

So approximately how much can I expect to pay someone like you to do this? With my desktops, it was less expensive or approximately the same to purchase a newer faster one than upgrade an older one, but the last time I bought a desktop was five years ago, so I don't know if that is still true.

My laptop is a Lenovo N580 64-bit with Windows 7 Home Premium.

Thanks. Jane
Laptops require periodic blowing out of the inside. If there is cat hair about it will have to be disassembled, because just blowing air in can make it worse. Sometimes a repaste of the CPU is in order, and the fan should be oiled at the same time. I refurb laptops and I do this all the time. A BIOS flash may help too, and after three years a Factory Reset or a fresh install is in order.

If you want to do this yourself, do the reinstall and get a can of compressed air to blow it out. Blow out the keyboard too. Unless the video chip is going, most three year old laptops should have a LOT of life left in them.

Yea there were some H-P's on Amazon I didn't post them because they are junk
H-P is famous for it low power low end machines,

Good way to kill a low powered machine is loading it with 300gb of programs.....
The last one I posted was about as good as it gets for the budget

It has a decent processor and all it needs is a 500gb ssd.

It depends what the problem is. The first thing is the diagnosis. I can't speak for other independents, but if it needs a repaste I would charge $70, and I either would include a general tune up or would discount a reset or reinstall. And there would be shipping each way, which runs from $8 to $15 max with the right box (I'm in NY).

Yeah, this made me think I should add some business info on my profile, in case anyone's interested, if that's not against the rules.

Personally I would ask here,

Added the info you're wondering about and you'll get a response

I don't believe we are allowed to solicit clients here or services besides in the free realm of support as we are now.

Would I be able to use the hard drive from my non-working laptop as a secondary hard-drive? I remember my desktops having extra space for a second hard drive, but no extra space in the laptop or do I need to use the hard drive at all if I have a ssd? Which sdd would you recommend? Thanks. Jane

You could purchase an enclosure for the old hard drive and have an external drive to use for doing backups.

I like the Samsung ssds, pick which size you want from here: SAMSUNG/Internal SSDs - Newegg.com
