Maybe, another method would be to use your Win 7, disc and perform the repair function.
Did you try using system image, to rollback to an earlier time?

Hi there
Some Xboxes have been barred from MS'es servers.

Not sure if this is related to your problem - but check.

Xbox users - MS blocks servers due to piracy

Cheers

Update, i tried a reinstall no good either, it may have been because i left the controller reciever plugged in , may have to reinstall with it unplugged however wont the updates copy over in an upgrade reinstall, making it pointless to reinstall. the last thing i want to do is a clean install as it seems like using a slegehammer to crack a nut!

In the future, it would be helpful to create a meaningful thread title than something as non-descriptive as "Major problem!"
