    error 0x0 win 7 wont boot, new computer, old HDD


    Ok, I've just built a brand new computer with only one old component in it, my SSD harddrive with Win 7 installed on it. Sadly it wont boot for me.. =(

    It begins to start up and a bluescreen that dissappears so quickly you can't read appears for half a second, and then the system goes into the regular black screen and harps on about that windows couldn't be started normally, blah blah blah..

    Now, I've tried to use the repair option with the install disc, and of course, with my luck, that didn't work either, the only error message that came up was 0x0... whatever that means... it didn't really say anything else. I guess I could do a clean install on another drive if I get desperate, but this is a good drive, and I would really like to use this one without having to go through a clean install with all the rigamarole that entails.. so, if any of you computer geniuses can help me out it would be much appreciated...

    Oh, and for the record, I know that there's nothing wrong with this hard drive, because I just plucked it from my old fully functional computer.

    If Windows is already installed on the SSD and you are hooking it up to another motherboard, that's your problem. The OS is expecting different hardware ie it has the wrong drivers and setup data. In general you can't mix n match system HDDs. There is an adaptive method that I've seen mentioned here, where you prep the HDD before putting it into the new system, but I've never tried it - personally I'd do a clean install.

    There's also licences to think about (unless you are using retail Windows).

    You can do this if your Windows is retail.

    You have two options:
    - With SSD connected to your old PC use Sysprep, remove it once shutdown and plug in to new PC - there are a couple of tutorials for it, ask in them about details and Kari will help you
    - With SSD connected to new PC use Paragon Adaptive Restore - Make Windows 7 bootable after motherboard swap

    I am not sure if these work if old PC is BIOS and new is UEFI.

Ok, my aunt has a old emachines W619 or something like that. I cleaned the dust and decided to give her an old psu, working and tested, p4, compatible and working, and a geforce 7300LE, just to give her a boost. It refuses to boot now. Fans run, HDD makes its boot beep, no ram beeps or gx card...
