    Desktop Icons

Every time I reboot, my desktop icons get blanked-out leaving the text only.

This registry hack works after logging off and on again:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ShellIcons

    Change 29’s value to:

    C:\Windows\System32\shell32.dll,50
    Or
    C:\Windows\System32\shell32.dll,49
    Or
    C:\Windows\System32\shell32.dll,51

However, if I reboot, blankness recurs and I have to do the hack again (changing 50 to 49 or 51 or vice-versa).

Anyone understand my dilemma and/or have a permanent solution?

Hello Gummo, and welcome to Seven Forums. :)

Deleting the 29 string value in the registry ShellIcons key will fix this for you, but you'll have the default shortcut arrow showing again.

If you didn't want the shortcut arrow, then you might see if OPTION ONE below will work better for you after doing the above.

Shortcut Arrow - Change, Remove, or Restore
