Windows 7: UAC & Explorer.exe & Visual Studio 2013 Express

UAC & Explorer.exe & Visual Studio 2013 Express

A few weeks ago, I was changing the themes that windows uses for the windows and Explorerframe.dll, and good stuff like that. However, Explorerframe.dll doesn't like users to try and change it, so I had to jump through some hoops to get this theme change to work. I'm admin on the computer, but now whenever I need to perform some action that requires high rights, I get prompted with a UAC asking for permission to run Explorer.exe(even if I'm trying to run something else). That's just been a little minor downside to the themes, except for the last few days. I've been trying to install Visual Studio 2013 to replace my VS 2010, but it won't install. Literally, if I click on the "Install" button that has the Admin logo on it, it will think for a second, and then just quit, no error message. This happens with pretty much every version of Visual Studio I've tried to update(post 2012).

I need to use VS 2013 to use C++11, so this is pretty important.

Please get back to me as soon as possible, and feel free to ask me technical questions. I'm usually the guy that people go to fix their computers, but this one has me stumped.
Thanks.

Ok so I just fixed it(funny how awesome I am).

I went into Event viewer, found what error was causing the problem, and used the GUID to track down the exact issue. Turns out (like I suspected), it came down to explorerframe.dll. I thought I had already restored it, but turns out I didn't apply that to the Wow64 folder as well(I just replaced explorerframe.dll in System32).

If you need any more info email me at [REMOVED]

Just in case anyone else has this same problem. I know how frustrating it can be to not find out the issue. The advice I can give you is just persevere, don't leave your computer till you fix it. And you'll learn a lot.

Later sevenforums, peace.
