I agree with Copiman. While I used to be the first to jump on early releases/beta software, I've completely lost interest now that I'm getting older. I'd rather let others be the guinea pigs these days.

I have no doubt that Windows 10 will appeal to a lot of people. I'm sure performance wise, it runs pretty well.
For me, it just doesn't appeal. It offers very little over 7 that I would actually use.
I have no interest in Cortana or any type of voice search capabilities. I use an android phone and the first thing I did was uninstall Google Now and most of the other Google apps.
Mobile style apps on a desktop also have no appeal to me. While they may look better and easier for the average user, they're usually stripped of a lot of functions.
I don't use an Xbox, so all that integration with Windows 10 doesn't appeal to me either.
They've also stripped out features of 7 which I really like. Also it seems like they've just changed some things for the sake of change.

The privacy issues don't concern me that much, let's face it, if Microsoft, NSA, or whatever wants to collect data on you, they're going to no matter what settings you have switched off! I have nothing to hide on my PC.
Do I think it's right or acceptable? Of course not, but I don't see a way of stopping/blocking it fully these days, other than staying off the Internet.
As I said, I can see the large appeal for some people, but just doesn't do anything for me.

And with regards to the way MS has handled the 10 upgrade, they've gone about it the wrong way. Forcing nag screens and messages in the control panel about upgrading, wasn't the best way to go about this.
They could have achieved the same result with simple emails to customers. Or just a simple popup that you could permanently disable. We shouldn't have to go through uninstalling updates every month or using Group Policy workarounds, it's really difficult for a new/novice user.
The majority of people I've spoken to just want to get rid of the nagscreen/system tray icon.
It's like they're trying to annoy people into submission. It's not the way to go about it.
Microsoft has to accept that there are people who just don't want 10! Stop trying to force it on everybody.

As I said, I don't hate 10, I can see the appeal. But for me... No thanks, I'm perfectly happy with 7. It does everything I need and more.

One of the biggest aggravations to me about Win 10 and one that without question had a big impact on my decision to go back to 7 was the effort involved to remove apps you didn't want.

They allow you to simply click uninstall for some apps but remove the uninstall option for many other apps i know i don't want and would never use.

That was what really annoyed the crap out of me , if they allowed you to remove all the stuff you didn't want i have little doubt i would of never went back to 7. I could of lived with Cortana and some of the other things .

I have no interest in Skype, Twitter, Iheart radio, Candy Crush saga, OneDrive, One Note , Xbox and you name it i probably have no use for it.

Besides the pita to remove stuff you don't want the biggest dislike i have is the whole metro app's interface start menu , it's just awful .

The Win 10 start menu looks like the result of sitting a blind man in front of an Easel with a palm full of acrylic paint and telling him to paint different sized boxes.

In my line of work (technical support call center), I deal with lots of software issues that need "screen-shared", and despite the fact that I am not Microsoft technical support, many people ask me how to get rid of the annoying "update to Windows 10" icon on the task bar. I always have to tell them that I truly don't know how. But I "unofficially" recommend that they don't upgrade, because they won't like it! It should stop harassing them after the one year "free" period is up. Unless, of course, it's already downloaded!

Being the control freak I am, I've set my computer from day one to ask be before installing OR downloading updates. I kept IE 9+ off of my system that way for a long time, but IE 8 is at the point that nothing renders well anymore, so I updated to IE 10 recently. I skipped 11, because 10 is the last version where tabs can be disabled. Call me crazy, but I hate tabs! I used IE 6 (my favorite version) until 2010...

I don't care if Microsoft "XP's" it, I'll keep using it. I'm still using XP on my other computer, daily. Just keep your Anti-virus up to date. XP works fine with Firefox, and will continue to run great. Heck, even Windows 98 works somewhat OK on the internet. These machines can last decades if your are careful with them.

Like many, I can't stand the look of the new "apps" start up menu. I don't use iPhones or tablets. Apps are for tablets, APPLICATIONS and programs are for computers. My girlfriend has Windows 8 on her laptop, and I absolutely hate it! I can't even use it. The full screen "app" things are the most annoying things ever. I like to always be able to see my task bar, clock, and tool bars. I F11 things on RARE occasions, that's it.

Well, my laptop is running Windows 10 and today a big update/upgrade came along and removed several programs including my recently renewed Norton's Security!!!!!!! Wow, such BS with MS. I am thinking of Win 7 for sure!!!!!1
Seems to be a common "feature". In the process of updating Anti-virus programs are un-installed so they do not cause issues with upgrades. On The Register a user lost Speccy which is a system utility. It could be bugs in the re-installation of the gathered up programs or it could be a lack of space on the C drive when you have the new OS and the old one plus a load of temp files and 2 sets of program files and all the settings.
Curious. I never heard of that "feature" nor have I ever encountered it. Just lucky?

I have Windows 7 running on my dads laptop, when i heard about this i was pretty surprised of how stupid MS has gotten over the past few years. My dad hates W10 and he forever will. Personally i don't like W10, the only reason why i have it on my main laptop is because i want to stay up to date with all the updates to keep me safe etc, the other reason is that it gave me an FPS boost on all games i play, so that's pretty neat. What i don't like are those crappy Groove programs, I HATE THEM. They are so dang annoying, i liked the Windows 7 default programs for opening music(Windows Media Player) and photos(Windows Photo Viewer) etc, they were simple and good. Now they replaced those programs with Groove Music, Photos etc. The other thing is the UI. Who the heck thought of putting a smaller version of the Windows 8 startscreen as a start menu? The Windows 8 startscreen was bad enough, but when they re-introduced it on Windows 10 just with a smaller layout, i was seriously considering changing to OS X, but i didn't. Also about the thing with Windows 10 automatically installing on your computer, what the heck are they thinking? Are they really THAT stupid? Like first of all it is a 6 month trial, if you don't activate within 6 months, your gonna have the annoying "Activate Windows Now" screen popping up every 30 minutes or so, but if you decide to ignore that aswell then Microsoft is gonna pull up the 0x98 bugcheck(END_OF_NT_EVALUATION_PERIOD) on you every 30 minutes, that's just forcing the user to buy the OS.

Basically what Microsoft is trying to do is forcing you to buy Windows 10 weather you like it or not. Microsoft WAS good, but now they are REALLY stupid.

Also one last thing i want to mention is Microsoft stealing data from your computer. I mean are they really serious? They can steal somebody's personal information and banking account. That itself is just insane, to believe that Microsoft really wants to do this to us. We are just innocent people that wants to have a functional computer without anyone spying on us etc. From my perspective Microsoft has taken this too far.

Yea if you refer to the features or mining if you will for edge browser (or any browser for that matter) if one using form fill or auto login.... that is what M$ is referring too as keeping or retaining that data
If you sync a device that data is offered to the other device so it has to be transferred and of course in 10's case M$ would be doing that

So you really have to understand each and every M$ service/ app and realize what that app.. does and try not to overblow the feature as some sort of NSA exploit Laith the only one close is Onedrive and of course it has your files online so nothing is stolen one would upload manually or add to the Onedrive folder willingly

The key loggers and hate speech references are more concerning to me

Read the EULA the next time you have an hour or three. MSpy admits they are uploading your data from your computer and you have to agree to it to use Win 10. They claim they are only going to use it to ferret out problems (and that's probably true) but what is to keep hackers, governments, etc. from accessing that data?

I meant the edge data, yes. Of course they would mention it on the EULA, else they would get sued in an instant. But still it is pretty scary that they actually collect some data from you.

If so, then the telemetry for windows 10 is not working to well. I think some people are having issues with windows 10 threshold if I am reading the windows 10 postings correctly. I thought Microsoft was suppose to fix issues insiders find before threshold was released to the public. The preceding is just my opinion

    All,

    Back to windows 7,

I also find it odd to see an kb3107998 optional update on non Lenovo system
