    Help Needed Messing Up Bios

    I have onboard video in my system. I just purchased a PCI Express card with 512 MB and installed it to get ready for Win7. I did not do anything to disable the onboard video as I figured that would be done automatically. I just ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor again and it still says my card does not meet Win7 specifications. I was thinking that I might need to disable the onboard in the Bios. The only thing I see in there is under "PCI/PnP Setup". Under "Init Display First" there are two options. A "PCI" and a "PCI Express". It is set on PCI. Since my card is in the PCI Express slot, would this be the option I would need to change to make my system recognize the video card under the Win7 Upgrade Advisor? If I am completely off base with this, please straighten me out.

    The location of the control varies from bios to bios.

    On my PC it is under Advanced and then "Video Configuration".

    I would keep digging and look from something more clearly named, but it's possible you have it. No problem in trying it, because you can always get back in the bios and change it back.

    bigmck;

    I found the user manual for your motherboard here:

    ECS Web Site

    It is common to have an enable/disable setting for onboard functions like video, but yours does not. So the BIOS setting you found is the only one for video (that I could find). My experience with this setting is that it is not that imperative. The BIOS will find whatever video is available, this setting just says where to look first. When you install your PCIe card go ahead and set it to PCI Express.

    Can you tell us what video card you purchased? why it did not pass muster?

    You can also check this web site:

    Windows 7 Compatibility Center hardware browse results - Graphics Cards & Components - Graphics Cards

    for Windows 7 compatible hardware.

    Cheers!

    Thanks very much for your time spent on this. I have a Zotac GeForch 9400 GT with 512 MB. I have it setup DVI. I would think that this should qualify. I am not having any problem with the images, except what the Upgrade Advisor says. The Upgrade Advisor under "Windows Aero Support" said "Your current graphics adapter won't support the Windows Aero user interface". I will check out the links you gave me, Thanks,
