Cannot log into Windows User Profile - no password prompt box

Hello all

Please can any gurus help me.
After automatic updates last night when closing down Lenovo B320, this morning, I am unable to go into windows to access my desktop or files

1. Computer Boots up to user profiles screen.
2. When I select my profile, the password prompt box does not appear and instead flashes a black screen and returns to the main user profiles screen.
3. I have tried booting up in safe mode but I still have the problem of no password prompt box showing.

I hope there is a fix for this - Thanks in anticipation

I wish I could help you, but I'm having the same problem. I have tried Safe mode, Safe mode with networking, Safe mode with command prompt, last known good config and the same thing... Everytime I click either profile, it goes back to profile selection screen. I never even get to enter a password.

I think there is another user that is having teh same problem on this forum. Seem to be due to the latest update to Win7. Hopefully someone will be able to shed some light on this. I have searched the internet to no avail.

OK, I have made some progress on this. I have contacted Microsoft support via their website and they gave me a call back within 1 minute. I explained the problem and they are aware of this issue.

To get back into windows, Restart then press F8 then select repair computer, then restore to latest point in time (which was this morning's update). By going back to the last restore point you will get to the state before the update and be able to log in.

Once I logged in, I allowed the MS tech to have remote access of my pc so that they can install and fix the latest updates. This is still ongoing as we speak (after 30 mins)

We are usually critical of microsoft but I must admit they have been efficient and helpful in this instance.

Hope this helps

I have the same problem: After Update, "user profile flashes black screen and returns to user profile screen". I have resorted to using a recovery disk which gives me an option of 1 restore point 3 days ago, but when I select it, it says the C: drive does not exist. I can access safe mode with command prompt and find the OEM D: drive, but unable to access or restore at this point.

Try going into safe mode with command prompt again. Try to go the D: drive via typing "c:" without the " marks. Once there type rstrui.exe

I'm trying to help someone fix this problem on their computer. I can get to command prompt and even get to restore, but they don't have any dates to restore to. I think they are screwed.
