Windows 7 - Random processes in taskmanager appeared?

Hello! I use to have around 20 processes in my task manger and 1 day all of a sudden a BUNCH of random things came up and I use CCleaner to check my start up and nothing new was enabled.

I've done virus scans and had 0 results from anything suspicious.

I also opened file locations of these processes and they date back to 2009 (the ones I checked) but all of a sudden they want to appear in my task manager?

I don't see anything unusual in your screen shots.

What processes are you concerned about?

I have not seen a Windows 7 system with only 20 processes running unless "Show processes for all users" is not selected.

My Windows 7 system has about 90 processes running.

The only reasonable explanation is that previously "Show processes from all users" was unchecked. I expect that is all that changed. I don't think you could get a Windows 7 installation down to 20 processes and remain functional. 63 processes is not at all unusual and many systems have far more, and perform well.

I have 51 processes running at the moment, which includes:

    • 2 AV
    • 5 VMware
    • 13 processes I've started (e.g. browser, calendar, etc.)
