New concern re 10

I have just read this and in point 1 there is some concern in my mind as to how many 7 (& 8) users know this is going to happen if it true and from the reply I got from a member in the 10 forum is anything to go by it seems it might be.

For those interested I got this helpful reply from Cliff.
Is this true?? - Windows 10 Forums

I was wondering how long it would be before this came along and I for one am going to switch off updates until such times that I have to go 10.

Also from point 1,

Users will still need to confirm the installation manually for it to continue.
I ain't worried about it myself, I haven't seen any aggressive tactics yet, I install all the W10 related updates too.

I don't think anybody really knows what's going to happen. I wouldn't shut off updates just because somebody thinks it's going to happen.

It's your computer though, you can do whatever you want if you think you need to.

Ok mate I suppose it is only a matter of time before we are forced to use 10 as I said before here and in the 10 forum I am resigned to the fact of it coming to that. I see your point re updates too insomuch that given the inevitability of it all it is a pointless exercise.

Now my objection is to how they are doing it and yes I know other companies such as Apple and Google are or have been doing things that I find distasteful for some time now, and I am not one for caving in without speaking my mind.

Nobody is forcing you to do anything John, but whatever makes you feel better go ahead and do it.

I haven't had anything try to force itself to install yet, I install all the updates like I said, I do it manually though.

I have automatic updates turned off, set to check but let me choose.

You're not going to change how they do business, you can object all you want.

I'm just saying you don't need to overreact because of some article about what might happen.

You also have to realize that the web is funded by advertising and a lot of these "News Sites" will publish whatever will drive clicks to their site and thus increase advertising revenue.

It's been a known fact for years that "Bad news sells" this is true of the conventional press and also the Web - Negative reports and opinions, even if a minority of all reports, will be published in preference to the reports / and opinions of the majority of satisfied users.

Yep I know my friend and I have read a lot from articles like that one I posted and it seems to me that anything I have read is indeed negative - I see not much at all to the contrary.
To be frank I have tried 10 on a couple of my machines before now and I really was not keen on it at all only because I find 7 so easy to navigate and use - so why fix a wheel that is not broken? I can see no advantage other than more profits for Microsoft.

I have a dual boot system with Win 7/Win 10. Win 10 is my production OS, but I keep Win 7 as I have one old RS232C application, for my wife's embroidery machine, that will not run (even in compatibility mode) in anything above Win 7. Thus I keep Win 7 for that. I have the NIC disabled so it does not go on line. I should be "safe" with that since the only time I boot up Win 7 is when patterns need to be transferred to the embroidery machine.

If you use a socket share between the router and the embroidery machine for power, you'll be really safe, if the embroidery machine is active the internet is not
