Screen goes black and computer immediately restarts

This happens spasmodically, but seeemingly more often. Could it be a sign that something (PSU?) in ny approaching 5 y.o. system is giving up. Or may be the cause is different.

    Your thoughts please! :)

    Hi,
    Could be temperatures
Use this to monitor then just open it and minimize it
The Temp will show a number on the action center side of your taskbar
Post what it states after opening it
Download Real Temp 3.70 | techPowerUp

That's funny! I've been culling and tidying my file of advice articles, and came upon an article by TechPowerUp on RealTemp!:)
I'll certainly use it. The author seemed to have some reservations though; my evaluation would not be a guide to their worth.

I have use Dell diagnostics' system tree's section for random reboots on 10 iterations setting; all passing.

    Hi,
Realtemp is good use it Dell junkware bites and might have low standards
Your case might need better ventilation but do post the numbers and monitor them closely.

Senility strikes! I downloaded the app, but nothing appears on the taskbar. Extraction was to
    C:\user\AppData\Local\RealTemp_370.

What next to make it work?

    Hi,
Should download to your downloads folder and extract all there as well
Then open the extracted folder and right click the realtemp.exe file and send to desktop create shortcut.

Hi yep just minimize and monitor it,
    More stuff to try here
    Use Clean boot,
Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup
Click Start and type in the search box,
    msconfig
Click on the suggestion on top or hit the Enter key,
Go to the Startup section and take some screen shots for a complete list,
Go to the Services section and on the bottom left Check the box to Hide All Microsoft services,
    Repeat the screen shots,
    Cheers.

Last evening, about 6.40, the same happened, but with a difference. There was no immediate reboot.
The power button was unresponsive; I had to remove and replace the powercord to resume. The reading from RealTemp was quite a bit higher than that seen yesterday and today (att'd).

I have the reboot time as 18:46:29, but following a tutorial could find any code 1074/6008 events of the computer's shutting.

    Further comments etc?

Your PSU certainly could be the problem.
