explorer.exe crashes when right click on any files

Hi,

Wen I right click on any files in Windows 7 laptop, the explorer.exe crashes after waiting for a about a minute. The event viewer has the following entry when it happens.

Any help in fixing this issue would be highly appreciated.

A thread in process C:\Program Files\Common Files\McAfee\SystemCore\mcshield.exe took longer than 90000 ms to complete a request.
The process will be terminated. Thread id : 8644 (0x21c4)

It is not crashing when I open a file/folder. It is crashing when I right click on a file.

Anyways, I have run the chkdsk, the disk has no issues.

Download a copy of Explorer++ (portable) and extract the files to a folder on your desktop. Run the executable (Explorer + +.exe)

Download the right version for your system - 32bit or 64bit - You didn't fill out your system spec.

Browse to a problem file and right click the file from within the Explorer++ GUI. What happens? If there's no crash post a screenshot of the right click menu that you see.

Thanks.

4. Error

Windows cannot access the file C:\Windows\System32\synceng.dll for one of the following reasons: there is a problem with the network connection, the disk that the file is stored on, or the storage drivers installed on this computer; or the disk is missing. Windows closed the program Explorer++ because of this error.

Program: Explorer++
File: C:\Windows\System32\synceng.dll

The error value is listed in the Additional Data section.
User Action
1. Open the file again. This situation might be a temporary problem that corrects itself when the program runs again.
2. If the file still cannot be accessed and
- It is on the network, your network administrator should verify that there is not a problem with the network and that the server can be contacted.
- It is on a removable disk, for example, a floppy disk or CD-ROM, verify that the disk is fully inserted into the computer.
3. Check and repair the file system by running CHKDSK. To run CHKDSK, click Start, click Run, type CMD, and then click OK. At the command prompt, type CHKDSK /F, and then press ENTER.
4. If the problem persists, restore the file from a backup copy.
5. Determine whether other files on the same disk can be opened. If not, the disk might be damaged. If it is a hard disk, contact your administrator or computer hardware vendor for further assistance.

If Explorer++ doesn't work either it means that you've got more serious problems than I thought. I probably cannot help but anyway see this post:

See this post:

Explorer.exe keeps crashing

Upload Explorer Crash Dump (zipped) and attach it to a post if you can figure out how to enable Explorer Crash Dumps.

I also suspect that you might have an issue with Mcafee context menu handler but I'm not sure how you can disable to test.

Try moving the executable D:\software\Windows_Util\Explorer++\Explorer++.exe

to a folder on your desktop and run it from there.

The right-click context menu is compiled in real time when you R/C on an object. It does this because it has elements that are custom keyed to different kinds of objects. If the context menu is sticking, something is not compiling correctly. In this case it is McAfee. See if you can do a repair of McAfee in Control Panel / Programs and Features. Or Reinstall.

You can use CCleaner to parse some elements of the context menu, and simply disable the troublesome entry.

But if I may offer my frank opinion, I would do a thorough uninstall of McAfee (use their utility or Wise Prog Uninstaller) and use a better AM.
