How do i set up to turn on and off sleep automatically

I want to put my PC to sleep every night so i doesn't run the power bill up 1000 times. I have a backup setup to start at 3 in the morning (when i'm obviously not using it). When it's asleep it can't do that so, i need a way to wake it up to do the backup then go back to sleep after it's done. Pls, help! Thanks

You should be able to find the backup job in Task Scheduler. Then simply check "wake up computer to perform this task". See How to Make Your PC Wake From Sleep Automatically

Will this work if i replace shutdown with sleep? Make Your PC Shut Down at Night (But Only When You?re Not Using It)

You might check BIOS to see if there are power management section that can turn the computer on (even if it is off). I use that power setting on several Dell computers, but I've not seen it on Asus motherboards. Maybe you will get lucky.

I was suggesting a totally different way to wake the computer. Waking via BIOS has been very reliable for me for years. But maybe only business class computers have that feature.

I have not used scheduled tasks to put a computer to sleep - so, I was not going to speak to your question about scheduled tasks. I was going to leave that to paul1149.

    In that case.... :)

I don't see why you couldn't use the scheduled task. That article says to put /s in the parameter box, but that's to shutdown. /h would hibernate. I'm not sure there is a switch for sleep. You may have to use a script for that; not sure.

No, you can't just replace the text of Shutdown with Sleep.
Shutdown is a Win 7 program, Sleep is not a Win 7 program.

What you can do is create a Sleep.bat file with this command:
    rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState 0,1,0

Then setup your scheduled task to run the Sleep.bat file

Your link in post #3 has a link to this page, it shows the commands for Shutdown, Sleep, and more.
Create Shutdown / Restart / Lock Icons in Windows 7 or Vista

If you use Hybrid Sleep it gets more complicated.

Some backup apps have a setting to put the computer to sleep after the backup completes. It might be best to check that before guessing what time to put the computer to sleep.

I think Macrium Reflect (free) can wake the PC to run a scheduled backup and sleep the PC when the backup is finished.
I use Macrium, but i don't use these options, so i never tested them.
