Windows 7 - Extended Partition Question

Hello all.

I was under the impression that an OS could not be operated from an extended partition; or does it not hold true for a multi (dual) boot? I'm going to use Brink's disk management as an example of what I'm asking.

I have done mine more or less the same as Brinks and it works great.

I think its ok as long as the boot loader is on a system partition.

i have mine setup with

1.5 gig active primary partition
then logical 25gig xp32 /vista64 50 gig/vista32 50 gig/ Windows 7 50gig /2x 50 gig spare for new installs

the one thing i found vista installs on this config no problems but 7 would only install if i started the install from with in one of the existing operating systems

i do this config as its easier to recover if something goes wrong with one of the operating systems or active boot partition

it is ok years ago i was highered to just try to break my friends software he authered

at 1 point i had C:\dos/wfw311 D:\win95 E:\NT3.51 F:\NT40 WS and servers

one 1 HDD the key was keeping the C: drive formated as FAT16 all the other OS's could see it and install their boot loaders oh yeah you had to install in order too
