How do I save changes to my Power Settings?

    Hi.

I had a problem with my CPU (i7-4790K) making high-pitched noises - very odd. I solved it, with help from AVSIM forums (Flightsim), as explained here:

PC making strange noise! Any ideas?

However, that leaves me with another problem. The registry tweak there produces a new option under Advanced Power Settings/Processor Power management called 'Processor Idle Disable'. Setting this to disabled immediately stops the high-pitched chirping of the CPU. However, the 'Save Changes' button on the Edit Plan Settings page never seems to be anything other than greyed out when I make changes to my power plan under the 'advanced' settings, so when I reboot the 'Processor Idle' setting is back to enabled (and the high-pitched noise is back until I change the setting manually again).

I tried changing a few other advanced settings, but the 'Save Changes' button in never accessible, always greyed out. Why is this? Is the Save Cjhanges button only for the two options on that window ('Turn off the display" and "Put the computer to sleep")?

How do I get round this? Thanks.

Doubt this will help, but IIRC CTR+S is the Windows keyboard shortcut for Save. Might see if that works, though the real solution would be to get the greyed "Save Changes" back.

EDIT: Also, did you hit the Apply button in the Advanced tab window, before going back to the main one with the Save Changes button? If the change isn't applied maybe the button is grayed b/c it didn't register a change in the settings. Just a guess.

Thanks.. oddly after trying a couple more times, the setting seems to have stuck between reboots. The 'save settings' button never seems to be operational when saving advanced settings.

I made a couple of other power changes and on a first reboot they have also reverted to what they were before. I don't know if there's some oddity whereby settings only remain after a second attempt - but that makes no sense. I certainly hit the 'apply' button, as the change was fine until I rebooted. Had I not hit 'apply' there would have been no change at all...

    Probably never know!!

Hm. Well, glad it's working now. There is an excellent Power Setting sticky here, if you wanted to do a more thorough check.

    Thanks for the link.

No, the CPU has been quiet ever since I applied those changes.
